Since our stay in Singapore was only a few days, there were so many more food places we would have loved to visit, but we managed to go to a few of the most popular and I rounded up my faves. I'd love to go back and visit all the other famous hawker centres, but I could happily just eat Hainanese chicken every meal. (But honestly, it's just so hot there that most of the time I didn't even want to touch hot food) Here is my my guide on where to eat in Singapore on a budget. Please excuse the photography because these really aren't instagrammable foods.

Ah Tai Chicken Rice

££££
This was my favourite Hainanese chicken rice that we had. For those who don't know, Hainanese chicken is just chicken and seasoned rice, and is one of Singapore's national dishes. Sounds very basic, but the chicken is perfectly poached to optimum tenderness, and is served with a choice of garnishes. Located in Maxwell Food Centre of Chinatown, this stall is right next to the famous Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken stall and seems to be underrated compared to the latter. Don't be mistaken by the lack of queue here; if you gave me Ah Tai and Tian Tian chicken to eat blindfolded, I most likely wouldn't even be able to tell the difference. Even comes with a lil bowl of soup.
1 Kadayanallur Street, #1-7 Maxwell Food Centre, Chinatown, Singapore 069184

Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice

££££
The first time we visited Maxwell Centre, Tian Tian had such a long queue it was snaking out of the building so we went to Ah Tai, but then the second time we came back, there was NO QUEUE. We went late afternoon and probably got lucky because the usual queue time is meant to be around 20 minutes. Of course this is good stuff. Really fragrant rice and tender chicken. It's so hyped up and well loved, and is voted the best chicken rice hawker stall in Singapore.
1 Kadayanallur Street, #1-10/11 Maxwell Food Centre, Chinatown, Singapore 069184

Liao Fan Hawker Chan

££££
Personally found this a bit of a miss because we went there a bit before opening time, was near the front of the queue and didn't get our meal until about 45 minutes after it opened because they had issues with their till system and then they forgot about our order. So no, I do not think this is worth 1 hour of queuing time when you're hangry. However, it is the world's cheapest Michelin star restaurant so if you're really keen on trying the soy sauce chicken, why not. It's like £2. (Again, this is not instagrammable stuff) I definitely have had better soy sauce chicken in Hong Kong though.
78 Smith Street, Chinatown, Singapore 058972

Jumbo Seafood

££££
I talked about this in my 4 Day Singapore Itinerary, and ok, it's not actually a budget friendly restaurant, but since it's regarded as a 'must eat' in Singapore, I decided to add it to the list. And after some extensive research, the conclusion I found was that if you find a cheap chilli crab, chances are it's not very good, so if you want to delve into one of Singapore's most famous dishes, it seems like you just have to go down the more popular, but less affordable route. People usually recommend chilli crab or black pepper crab, and since I hate pepper, that helped us decide. The 1kg crab comes swimming (not literally) in a spicy, tomatoey, eggy, garlicky sauce. Yes, this was good and worth the money, but I also have a spice tolerance of about 2% so my mouth was literally dying. Don't forget to order a bunch of the mini buns for dipping in the sauce.
20 Upper Circular Road, #B1-48, The Riverwalk, Singapore 058416

Ya Kun

££££
Again, mentioned this in my Singapore Itinerary post, but Ya Kun Kaya Toast makes for a really satisfying breakfast. We went a couple of times and had the original toast with soft boiled eggs. Kaya jam tastes sickly sweet on its own, but dipped in eggs seems to cancel out the sweetness, and it turns into the most moreish breakfast.
109, 01-09 Middle Road, Fortune Centre, Singapore 188979

Tiong Bahru

££££
We ate a lot of chicken rice on our trip and this was also decent. I'm convinced Hainanese chicken tastes good anywhere in Singapore. And then we had this again on our last night and ordered takeaway to our hotel. And then I decided to be boujee and have it in the bath whilst sippin' on my glass of lime juice. And there's also 3 portions of chicken because Grab Food requires a minimum spend.

Amsterdam was one of my best food holidays and I think I enjoyed literally every meal I ate. We came here for a bank holiday weekend and were lucky that there was a nice heatwave. We took advantage and went riding round the city on a tandem. Maybe I'll do another post later on what we got up to (besides eating).

Vegan Junk Food Bar

££££
Recommended by my friends and was told the burgers here were amazing. They did not oversell; this was literally the best burger I've everrrrrr had. And I don't even like burgers. Can someone please franchise this in the UK already. The nuggets and fries were good too, but the burger takes the cake. We just had the original burger - and then came back the next day to have it again. I can't even pinpoint why it tasted so good - the sauce? This place is trendy and popular, with purple mood lighting and neon signs, and the wait is also annoyingly long during peak times so get here earlier or come at a more off peak meal time.

Marie Heinekenplein 9, 1072 MH Amsterdam

Cut Throat

££££
Cut Throat is a hipster looking restaurant that casually doubles up as a barbers. I wasn't convinced, even by the nice presentation, that I would be won over by some red velvet waffle with fried chicken because I don't really even like fried chicken (unless it's Korean fried). This isn't typically the kind of food I like to eat, and feels like a dessert and main all-in-one, but omg, SO GOOD.

Pluk

££££
Pluk is a very cute and aesthetically pleasing cafe. Came here for the gram to try the unicorn bowl, which is a blend of... I can't even remember what fruit, topped with granola. And whilst it was nice, I prefer more substantial hot food for breakfast. However, this is a place to go just for the whole of experience because it's very millenial with pretty interiors and lots of other Instagrammers having photoshoots with their food. We originally went to a different Pluk, but there were no seats and the waiter suggested we try the one at Reestraat 19 which we did. You order downstairs at the counter, and then go upstairs onto the mezzanine level to eat. They also sell merch here with their cute logo on. Cute.

Mook Pancakes

££££
After a long bike ride, we came here for a quick snack. Whilst the pancake with blueberries and strawberries looks nice and sweet, it wasn't anything mind blowing. I actually preferred the savoury pancake with smoked salmon and crème fraîche (but the one with blueberries was just more photogenic).

De Clercqstraat 34, 1053 LB Amsterdam

Viet View in Foodhallen

££££
A crowded food court with a wide variety of different foods and stands. I had my first ever banh mi, from Viet View and I didn't know that a baguette could taste so good - the contrast of the caramelised pork with pickled veg tasted so good. And I literally am just describing everything as 'so good' because it was. I'm so accustomed to just eating either rice, noodles or pasta wherever I go, but I really ventured out of my usual palette on this trip with all this junk food and baguette and stuff. How adventurous of me. And again, because we loved it so much, we went back a second time to get some for our Eurostar journey home.

Bellamyplein 51, 1053 AT Amsterdam

Rob Wigboldus Vishandel

££££
So I know this is not a particularly attractive photo that screams 'must eat', but we found this place on TripAdvisor and it seemed like an authentic, no-frills cheap eat where we could quickly grab a bite. Again, wasn't too convinced by the reviews about how 'amazing' a sandwich could be, but again, was won over. Tucked in a little alleyway off the big shopping street, Rob (I assume that's what the friendly man who works here is called) serves sandwich buns with fresh ingredients. We just had the herring and pickle which I think is the bestseller as he recommended it. And like everything else I'd eaten on this trip, this tasted pretty satisfying.

Went on a girls trip a while ago to Prague, Czech Republic and needless to say, we all captured some reasonably aesthetically pleasing photos. It was just a short stay where we underestimated the coldness (bring a thicker coat - it's colder here in the autumn than in the UK) and ended up getting more Ubers than we probably should have as everything generally is within reasonable walking distance. We stayed at the Century Old Town Prague - MGallery by Sofitel which is a 4 star hotel in the city centre with spacious and sleek rooms.

Prague Castle

Prague Castle is a UNESCO monument and is also meant to be the world's biggest ancient castle. We had a nice wander through the whole complex which is made up of many different churches, palaces and buildings with gothic and several other types of architecture.

Charles Bridge

Charles Bridge, which goes over the Vltava River, is another historic site in Prague. looks pretty from the distance as well as up close, with the Praguian buildings in the background. Fortunately for us, it was super sunny with bright blue skies when we came. There is a black gate-like fence at one end where people have been putting love locks on them (to much controversy).

Astronomical Clock

Unfortunately, this was under construction when we visited and the blue scaffolding ain't too pretty, but the tower looks so intricate and is one of the oldest astronomical clocks in the world. Actually, as I type this, I'm not even sure what an astronomical clock even does, but it just looked like an old, fascinating, charming relic with pretty details.

John Lennon Wall

The Lennon Wall is a fun, vibrant backdrop for gram photos. Originally, someone had painted John Lennon and some lyrics on this wall after his assassination, but overtime other people and street artists have been painting on top and now there are just layers and layers of different paintings that are also constantly being painted over. This place draws in big crowds so you have to quickly just try to squeeze in and grab a photo. And the John Lennon Pub is just down the road.

CAFE LOUVRE

Not necessarily 'instagrammable' per say, but just felt like throwing this in there because why not. Albert Einstein used to come here which kinda makes it worthy of going to already. They also do amazing shots of hot chocolate - like, literally the best, thickest and creamiest hot chocolate I've ever had.

Lots of quaint buildings, statues and memorials surrounding the bustling square.

After a little whirlwind trip to Singapore, I have left feeling satisfied that I have been able to visit one of the most beautiful, well-kept, clean and safest countries. And it is literally the most instagrammable place. I took about a million photos and my camera roll is looking very pretty.

SUPERTREE GROVE, GARDENS BY THE BAY

Gardens by the Bay was my favourite place in Singapore and words simply don't do the SuperTree Grove justice. The trees are huge - they look pretty cool by day, but by night... completely mesmerising. It feels like you jumped straight into Avatar. Don't miss the daily light show at 7.45pm. It only lasts for 15 minutes, but does not disappoint.

CLOUD FOREST, GARDENS BY THE BAY

The Cloud Forest is also another attraction which you will most likely be visiting if you are going to the Gardens by the Bay anyway, and there are so many photogenic spots from so many different angles. Make sure you come early to avoid the crowds. We were lucky enough to be JUST ahead of a massive Chinese tour group.

FUTURE WORLD, ARTSCIENCE MUSEUM

The ArtScience Museum is part of the Marina Bay Sands resort and looks like a giant lotus flower from the outside, and the structure is pretty innovative as the centre of it collects and recycles rainwater. The Future World: Where Science Meets Art exhibition has some pretty instagrammable set-ups, including the digital waterfall with a myriad of flowers in the background, and the room with 170,000 LED lights.

MARINA BAY SANDS

You can't miss Marina Bay Sands' presence in the Singapore skyline. It's exclusive, it has the world's largest infinity pool, and it looks incredible whether you're looking at it from afar or viewing the rest of the city from atop it. So you can't actually get in to the infinity pool unless you're a hotel guest, and you also have to purchase tickets if you want to enter the rooftop bar Ce La Vi or the observation deck. We ended up sneaking into the bar somehow after being denied access due to being ticket-less. The bar is buzzing at night and you can view the whole of the city - including Gardens by the Bay where the SuperTree Grove looks tiny from up high.

MERLION PARK

The official 'mascot' of Singapore, the half lion, half mermaid is a giant sculpture that sits at the waterfront spouting out water, looking majestic against the Singapore skyline of Marina Bay Sands and the ArtScience Museum. I personally prefer it in the daytime, but the park is constantly surrounded by lots of tourists, even late at night.

SULTAN MOSQUE, ARAB STREET

A grand landmark in Arab Street of Kampong Glam. On one side of the mosque, palm trees are lined along the pathway, and the other side has a photogenic archway.

PERANAKAN HOUSES, JOO CHIAT

Unfortunately, we were only there for 4 days and there was so much more I would've loved to explore. We did manage to squeeze in time though to go a bit further out of the city centre, to the area around Joo Chiat Road where they have rows of Peranakan Houses. They look very quaint, painted in pretty pastels and jewel colours.

MARINA BAY SANDS SHOPPES

Navigating in and around the Marina Bay Sands gets a bit confusing at times because it's huge and crazy busy with Crazy Rich Asians. Outside the Shoppes, you can get a really good view of the cityscape and skyscrapers. Looks particularly pretty during sunset and also at night. There's a massive Louis Vuitton store outside which looks like a giant, sparkling diamond with flashing lights in the evening. There's also a pathway outside densely lined with exotic palm trees.

CHINATOWN

Chinatown is a lot different to some of the other touristy areas. Not looking as pristine as the other parts of the city centre, it still has its own charm. There are lots of stalls and shops selling souvenirs, but the bustle is a different and a nice experience, and the streets are adorned with red lanterns.

CHINESE AND JAPANESE GARDENS

The Gardens here are peaceful and tranquil; a lot less humans around and perfect for the 'gram.

LITTLE INDIA

Even if you're just passing by, take some time to admire the intricate details of the Sri Miriamman Temple.

SENTOSA ISLAND

For a bit of sand and sea, you can explore Sentosa Island, Singapore's manmade beach. You can cross over onto another smaller island across the instagrammable (and wobbly) suspension bridge.
